Meet ELATION, BREEZE, and WHISPERS
If you're anything like me, the walls in your home are more than just... walls. They're prime real estate for letting your personality shine. They’re the quiet sentinels that hold up your roof while hopefully showing off a bit of your style - and maybe even lifting your spirits when the kettle’s taking a bit too long to boil...
That’s exactly what I had in mind when I created ELATION, BREEZE and WHISPERS - three abstract floral paintings that I like to think of as visual mood-lifters (sort of like emotional support plants, but with no watering required!)
A Splash of Colour and a Dash of Joy
Those who know me are aware I’m not the brooding artist type. I don’t sit in a dimly lit studio in a beret, furrowing my brow over existential brushstrokes. My creative spark comes from a much simpler place - nature and how it makes me feel.
You know that feeling when you step outside and the air smells just a little bit like spring, the light is doing something magic through the leaves, and you suddenly feel like you can actually breathe again? That’s the feeling I wanted to bottle up, shake like a snow globe, and pour out onto canvas.
These three paintings are layered (quite literally - I’m a fan of building up texture and depth with paint) and infused with that spirit of calm, clarity and quiet happiness you get from being out in the wild… even if 'wild' just means your local park or a slightly overgrown garden.
Let me introduce you:
ELATION (the cheerful one)
ELATION is all about energy. It’s that golden afternoon sun filtering through a hedge of wildflowers. It’s the buzz you feel when you've finally ticked off a to-do list and actually remembered to buy milk. With pops of vibrant yellow, bursts of magenta, and dreamy turquoise tucked into soft washes of colour, this piece is meant to lift you up.
I layered this one up slowly with acrylic paint, allowing each colour to breathe before adding the next. There’s something magical about that process - letting go of the urge to control the outcome and, instead, letting it grow organically. Like a wildflower patch on canvas!
ELATION is the painting equivalent of that one friend who always turns up with snacks, good news and a sunny smile. You can't help but feel better just being around it.
(The original painting is currently still available as well as giclée art prints in several sizes.)
BREEZE (the daydreamer)
Next up is BREEZE, and true to its name, it has the gentlest soul of the bunch. This one is all soft movement, lightness, and a sense of space. Think petals floating lazily on a breeze, the rustle of tall grasses, and the way the light plays tricks with your eyes on a summer afternoon.
The layers in BREEZE are subtle but deliberate. I used sheer washes of pastel tones, then added more detailed flicks of colour and movement, like little visual whispers (we’ll get to WHISPERS in a moment, I promise). It’s the painting that says Take a breath. It’s okay to pause. You’re doing just fine.
And hey, in a world that seems increasingly full of loud opinions, loud headlines, and loud everything else, BREEZE is a soft, quiet hug in art form. Like a cuppa under a blanket. Like the good kind of silence.
(The original painting has sold but giclée art prints are available in several sizes.)
WHISPERS (the introvert with hidden depths)
And finally, we have WHISPERS. This one holds back a little at first glance - its palette is more muted, a bit dreamier, a touch misty. But the longer you look, the more you notice. There’s texture, complexity, and surprising hits of colour that peek through when you least expect them. Kind of like nature itself, really.
WHISPERS came together slowly, with lots of layering and stepping back (literally and metaphorically). It’s not trying to shout to get your attention - it’s inviting you in. It’s that quiet walk in the woods when the leaves crunch underfoot, and the air smells like moss and peace. It’s stillness, but never boring.
I like to think of WHISPERS as the contemplative one of the trio - the one that keeps your secrets and gently reminds you to stop rushing and start just being.
(The original painting is currently still available as well as giclée art prints in a few different sizes.)
Why I Paint (and why I hope my art makes you smile)
I believe that art doesn't have to feel intimidating or need a 45 minute gallery guide to make sense. You shouldn’t have to squint at a canvas and pretend to understand the 'tension between form and void', unless you want to. For me, art is about feeling something.
I paint because it makes me feel good. Spending time creating something inspired by nature, even when I’m stuck indoors, brings me that same sense of peace and feeling grounded that I get from being outside. It helps me reconnect with what actually matters. And I want my art to do that for you too.
If someone tells me that one of my pieces makes them smile when they walk past, or brings calm to a once-too-busy corner of their lounge, that’s the biggest compliment I can get.
A Home That Feels Like YOU
There’s something lovely about having artwork in your home that reflects your own personal vibe, isn’t there? Whether you’re the bold and bubbly type (hello, ELATION), the gentle daydreamer (oh hi, BREEZE), or the quiet contemplator (WHISPERS fans, I see you), I hope these paintings bring a little piece of you into your space.
Because our homes should feel like sanctuaries - not just places we exist in, but places we feel completely ourselves. Whether you hang one piece above the sofa or all three in a tidy little gallery wall (they do look lovely together, if I do say so myself), I hope they add that little spark of joy to your every day.
So that’s the story behind ELATION, BREEZE and WHISPERS - three floral abstracts that wear my heart on their sleeves and bring a bit of nature’s magic indoors.
Thanks for taking the time to get to know them. If you’ve got a blank wall that’s crying out for colour, or want something lovely to look at while you sip your tea, they might be just the thing.
And if you ever want to chat about art, nature, or which paintbrushes shed the least (because yes, it’s a thing), I’m always up for a chat.
You can take a look at the original paintings here (sorry, BREEZE has already sold)
or all three are also available as fine art giclée prints here.
P.S. Fancy seeing how any or all of these three look in your space? Pop me a message - I'd love to help you find the perfect piece for you.
