Great Reasons to Buy a Fine Art Print
Share
My last blog post was about the appeal of owning an original painting, but there are lots of good reasons to buy fine art prints as well. It all depends on your preferences, budget and what you want the artwork for.
So when would you choose to buy a fine art print rather than the original painting?
When the original is no longer available

There can obviously only ever be one original, so once someone has bought that, fine art prints give you another way of owning that artwork.
A good quality fine art print will still show all the details and texture of the original piece even though it is printed onto a smooth surface, so if you've fallen in love with a particular piece and the original has already sold, a fine art print is the next best thing.
When you want more versatility regarding size
Another great benefit of fine art prints is that they come in a variety of sizes. This gives you the versatility to choose a size that is exactly right for where you want to display the artwork, even if the original is too small or too big for the space you have in mind.
As long as the original painting has been scanned in or photographed at a high enough resolution, it can be printed much larger than the original. Alternatively, if the original is very large and you don't have enough space for it, a smaller art print could be the perfect solution for you.
When you're on a tight budget
Even excellent quality fine art prints will be more affordable than an original painting. This makes them a great alternative when you're on a budget or if you like to change your décor on a regular basis. With fine art prints you can afford to replace your wall art more regularly than you would with original artworks.
You may also be able to afford a larger fine art print than you could an original, so if you have a big space to fill on a tight budget, this could be perfect for you.
When you want to give art as a gift
If you want to give a piece of art as a gift, an art print can be a great way to do this. Unless it's a very close family member or friend, the cost of an original painting may be more than you would usually spend on a gift, but a fine art print could be perfectly priced.
Or perhaps a friend has admired an artwork you have in your home, in which case you could give them their own copy in the form of a print, if the artist offers this. The fact that they're available in multiples also makes it possible to share a favourite painting with several of your friends.
And if you're not completely sure whether you've figured out their taste in art, a print is a much less risky way of testing the waters!
Some more benefits...
Modern printing methods mean that you can get fine art prints with excellent colour accuracy and detail, printed onto archival quality materials that will last a long time (maybe even outlasting you!)
Depending on the original, prints can sometimes be lighter and more flexible, as well as coming in standard sizes, making them easier to frame.
They're also great for creating art gallery walls with multiple pieces.
Deciding which is right for you
An original painting or a fine art print?
Both originals and fine art prints have their own unique value, so you can choose whichever feels right for you.
Think about your budget - are you looking for an investment or an affordable way to enjoy art?
Think about why you want it - Do you want a one of a kind statement piece with texture and brush marks or a few versatile prints that you can rotate for a fresh look?
Think about what you want it for - Are you building an art collection or looking for beautiful décor?
It pretty much comes down to whether you prefer the exclusivity of an original painting or the flexibility of a print...
Luckily for you, whatever you decide, I've got you covered!
